Conferences and Events

The FWSA is always interested to see what its members are working on, and by reviewing member events in our newsletter we hope to promote the exciting work and research that is currently going on in feminism and women’s studies.  We also hope that in exchange for advertising your event on our blog, you might return the favour by advertising the work of the organisation in your conference packs or at your registration desk. If you would like to receive FWSA publicity material for your conference packs, or would like more information about advertising your event on our blog, please contact Dr Nadine Muller (N.Muller@hull.ac.uk)

FWSA Postgraduate- Funding winners present their Interdisciplinary Seminar
SECOND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND REGISTRATION: Work, Family and Education: Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Seminar

    Keynote Speaker: Professor Linda McDowell

    15th September 2009 Newcastle University

Sponsored by the Feminist and Women’s Studies Association (FWSA)

The theme of this one-day interdisciplinary seminar is to explore how
social inequalities continue to exist in the worlds of ‘work’, ‘family’
and ‘education’. The aim of this event is to point to the challenges
individuals and families have to face in the changing areas of everyday
life. The interconnectedness between work (both paid and unpaid), family
and education are of continuing importance as choice (or lack of) in one
area can significantly affect opportunities in other areas of life.

The research fields of work, education and family whilst interlinking,
provide a massive scope for a wide range of specific research subjects,
issues and challenges. By providing a platform for postgraduate
researchers to share their experiences and research findings, in which
ethical, methodological and theoretical issues are also paramount, this
event will provide scope for information and practice sharing in a
    friendly and informal environment.

We welcome abstracts on the following:

    • Work, both paid and unpaid

    • Family / Household

    • Education

    • The interlinks between work, family and/or education

    • Relationships with other social divisions

    • Theoretical and Methodological Papers

EXTENDED DEADLINE DATE FOR ABSTRACTS: 13TH July 2009. If you are
interested please submit a title and abstract (of no ore than 250 words)
    to socpgr.events@ncl.ac.uk. Presentations
will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions.
