postgraduate seminars

want to organise a postgraduate seminar? - see below.

Applications can now be submitted for the 2009 postgraduate event fellowship.

In order to host a seminar, organisers are asked to submit a proposal to the FWSA. This is not an onerous process, and executive committee members, including the organisers of previous seminars, will be available to advise you. The only requirement in terms of topic is that the seminar should focus on an issue related to feminism; proposals for seminars which range across disciplines are particularly encouraged. Applicants are also required to demonstrate their strategy for attracting students from other institutions, since the creation of networks of students across institutions is a key goal of the seminars. Applicants should not feel confined the standard academic seminar format (although these too are welcome), as creative or experimental seminar ideas are encouraged.

The FWSA will provide a float of up to £500 to support the running of each seminar – for example, to cover costs for room hire, catering, or travel costs for outside speakers. Organisers will no longer be expected to recoup this money and return it to the organisation but will be expected to include FWSA advertisements in the CFP and to circulate FWSA promotional material at the event itself. Applicants are also encouraged to seek additional funding from their host institution to support the seminar. The proposal guidelines below set out the information that is required for the budget. Once the seminar has been completed, the organisers will be asked to submit a brief written report on the seminar which will be added to the web site to enable future applicants to build on those experiences, and to encourage future applications.

The FWSA student seminars are an important element of the FWSA’s work particularly in terms of building networks of feminist students across disciplines and institutions. They also offer experience in organising and running events that is valuable both within and outside the academy, and you will be supported throughout the process by the FWSA. If you think that you might be interested in hosting a seminar, please take the time to read the documents below and if you still have some queries you are welcome to contact the FWSA for further information on fwsa@fsmail.net. The deadlines for applications is February 15th and the successful group or individual will be informed by the end of February. Applicant(s) do not need to be members of the FWSA .

We’re looking forward to reading your proposals!
